Join Tanvi this Diwali for a relaxed and informal afternoon exploring the beautiful heritage folk art of Rangoli- through doing and making.

Rangoli designs are traditionally created during auspicious occasions such as Diwali, often at the threshold or entrance of the family home. Made with coloured ground rice or powdered chalks, these intricate patterns are symbolic representations of the universe and its cosmic energy through symbolic forms found in nature, spiritual diagrams and geometric shapes.

Before dusk, we will come together to create collaborative Rangoli designs, with ephemeral materials such as flowers, petals and sand as well as your own drawings to take home if you wish. The process invites active imagination and focus, through the creation of the visual

symbols themselves, and through taking time to contemplate them.

As evening arrives, lights will begin to glow around us, illuminating our designs and creating a peaceful space to pause, reflect and experience the beauty and symbolism of this ancient art form.

Come and spend a gentle Diwali afternoon creating, contemplating and sharing in this vibrant cultural tradition. All are welcome.

About Tanvi

Tanvi Kant is an interdisciplinary artist whose works centre on elemental hand-construction techniques such as unpicking, wrapping, coiling, knotting, and stitching. Working across sculpture, participatory installation, jewellery and collage, her sculptural textiles engage with tactile processes and intuitive material play.



Her work investigates embodied movement through sensory engagement with colour and texture, often using minimal tools. Drawing on her British-Gujarati upbringing, Tanvi’s workthreads memory and folk heritage, evoking rituals, adornment, food-making, and language. These recollections resurface as signifiers of cultural and bodily memory, synthesising lived experience into a poetic visual language.

Tanvi has extensive experience as a visiting tutor across adult, further, and higher education. She facilitates public workshops and community-led projects that encourage intergenerational learning and material exploration, inviting participants to respond through their visual and tactile senses.

Based on the South East Coast of the UK, Tanvi graduated in 2005. Her work has been exhibited internationally, received numerous awards, and her work is part of the public collection at Touchstones Museum and Art Gallery, Lancashire.

For those who are comfortably able to meet all of their basic needs and would like to help others take part. By choosing this option, you're directly supporting someone on a lower income to join the workshop, helping us keep our spaces welcoming and accessible for all.

For those who may sometimes feel the pinch around meeting basic needs but are generally able to manage. This option reflects the true cost of the workshop and helps us cover our running costs.
