Creative Chill: Care in Repair - Visible Mending

Bring your favourite worn-out piece back to life — no sewing skills required.

Saturday 19th September 2026 — doors 1pm, session 1.30–4.30pm

Join local artist Elaine Mullings for a slow, soulful afternoon of visible mending. You'll learn three simple stitches rooted in repair traditions from Japan to Nigeria, then lose yourself in Afri-Co-Lab's treasure trove of bright threads, patches and sparkly bits to make your mend truly yours — bold, subtle, or somewhere in between.

No experience needed. Just come, sit, stitch, and breathe.

Please bring:

• An item of clothing you would like to repair - a pair of jeans that might have a worn hole or a split crotch, a shirt with a stain, a jumper with a moth hole - for more ideas please see our FAQS

• You can bring fabric to patch your repair - but we will have a variety of fabrics, sequins and all the threads and other equipment you will need

You'll leave with:

• A lovingly mended item

• A take-home how-to guide so you can continue caring for other clothing

• A little more calm than you came in with

Our ticket pricing structure

We offer tickets on a sliding scale so that everyone has the chance to take part. Please choose the price that feels right for your circumstances. There's no need to explain or provide proof — we trust you to decide. Your honesty helps us keep these workshops open, welcoming and sustainable for all.

• Pay it Forward: for those who are comfortably able to meet all of their basic needs and would like to help others take part. By choosing this option, you're directly supporting someone on a lower income to join the workshop, helping us keep our spaces welcoming and accessible for all.

• Standard: for those who may sometimes feel the pinch around meeting basic needs but are generally able to manage. This option reflects the true cost of the workshop and helps us cover our running costs.

• Low/No Wage: for those who often feel financial strain and may not always be able to cover basic needs. This option is here to make sure that money is not a barrier to taking part — you are welcome here.
