ALL ABOARD!

Visiting big-named institutions like Imperial College can sometimes seem daunting!

  1. Far away - not local

  2. Not cheap

  3. Time-consuming to organise

  4. And no guarantee of having a good time

These are all valid concerns!

Join us on the BLACK 2 HASTINGS Freedom Bus and let Afri-Co-Lab help you navigate these challenges, giving you the freedom and confidence to have an awesome, fun-filled, creative, day-out with friends!

FREEDOM BUSES

Freedom Buses began in the 1960s as a peaceful protest to highlight the inequalities that Black and People of Colour faced in America and England.

Today Afri-Co-Lab invites Black and Global Majority folks and their chosen families in St Leonards, Rother & Hastings to take a ride on the BLACK2HASTINGS Freedom Bus.

Sign up closes Wednesday, 3rd June at midnight

ABOUT:

"THE GREAT EXHIBITION ROAD FESTIVAL"

exhibition-road.jpg

The Great Exhibition Road Festival happens just once a year — and it literally draws thousands of attendees!

Run by Imperial College London, one of the world's great science and technology universities, with help from its museum neighbours — the Science Museum, the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall — this is far more than a science festival.

It's a festival of arts, knowledge, creativity and ideas.

  • Everything we know you love.

  • Everything we know, you are ready to discover.

So come on the Freedom Bus and let Afri-Co-Lab be your guides — navigating you through a jam-packed festival with all the love, joy and radical welcome we bring to everything we do.

The festival features a variety of different zones, including:

Family Fun Zone Set in the beautiful surroundings of Kensington Gardens, the Family Fun Zone is where curiosity runs wild. Designed with children under 12 in mind, this is a space where the whole family can explore, play and discover together. Launch rocket mice into the air, design the perfect paper plane, meet engineers building solar-powered aircraft, or imagine yourself as a polar explorer in Antarctica. Little ones under five have their own dedicated space for stories, songs and crafts. With live performances on the Family Stage, food stalls and green open space to roam freely, it's the perfect place to let the day unfold at your own pace. environment.

Adults Only Zone: This one's just for the grown-ups - and it does not disappoint. Grab a drink, pull up a chair and get ready to explore science that speaks directly to your body, your relationships and your lived experience. Find out what's really going on in your brain when you're falling for someone, create hormone-inspired origami, or craft your own textile art inspired by the science of the body. If you fancy something with more of a show, the Science Cabaret serves up comedy, performances and even a mocktail-making session. Want to move? A Bollywood dance class exploring how stars are born will have you on your feet. There's even a Zen Bus if you need a moment to breathe and just be. Science has never felt this good.

NextGen Zone Made by young people, for young people — the NextGen Zone is where art and science collide in the most exciting ways. It's a space to get hands-on with cutting-edge robotics, challenge a robotic arm, watch robots play actual football, or dive into a workshop where you become a curator for the day. No expertise needed — just curiosity and a willingness to have a good time. If you'd rather take it all in, hang out, snap a pic in the photo booth or chat with the Young Producers about the hidden history of the area. The NextGen Zone is your space. Come as you are.
