THE HERO'S JOURNEY PROJECT BACKGROUND
ā
The Hero’s Journey is a collaborative community theatre project. Commissioned by Home Live Art and produced by community arts org Afri-Co-Lab. The Project is co-directed by theatre professionals Darragh O’Leary and Anna Maria Nabirye with Hattie Spice Designing, Ted Barrow Sound Designing and Chris Williams as Production Manager.
It is an ambitious development of a community pilot project by Darragh, Anna Maria, Afri-Co-Lab and Home Live Art created in 2022. Here is a trailer of the previous piece https://vimeo.com/835610633?share=copy
The Hero’s Journey will be performed at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery as part of Home Live Art’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, within the Knotty Festival: June 14/15/16 see schedule below.
Hasting Museum and Art Gallery are a strong partner and have given the project access to both the interior and exterior grounds of the space- making it a very exciting offer to build a show in response to.
The show is in rehearsal being co-devised with a community company, local to Hastings with low cost & free tickets for audiences. We are using the idea of The Hero's Journey story structure as a starting point for the company to create around - the idea being to create something epic, local and where we get to challenge stereotypes of who the hero can be, and how we can be the heroes in our own story.
Stage Manager for The Hero's Journey
ROLE:
We are looking for a Stage Manager to work on this ambitious and heart felt production. The piece is devised with a group of 13 community performers led by experienced professional co-directors Anna Maria Nabirye and Darragh O’Leary. Rehearsals are under-way so we are looking for someone who can join us and jump in immediately. The role will be very multifaceted and high communication skills are a must.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
-
Overseeing the scheduling, day- to-day coordination- working closely with the community coordinator
-
Documenting the rehearsal process and sharing with the relevant team members, central point of communication between departments, Liaising where necessary with all partners, creating calls and schedules for the community participants, and other practical considerations,
-
Operating sound/projector whilst in rehearsal space
-
Assist in the compiling of Qbase or equivalent workspaces to operate the show.
-
Keeping an up to date show book to be used by themselves as well as the forthcoming DSM
-
Supporting with get-in and out during tech and performance week
This is an unusual project so we are looking for a SM with flexibility, someone who is excited to create new systems and processes, a sharp eye for detail, but with a process driven community and collaborative ethos. As we are working at a functioning Museum & Art Gallery there are limitations during production week the show will need to be installed and de-rigged at the end of the day.
We are encouraging applications from folks local/commutable to Hastings as we are interested in building professional theatre opportunities in the Hastings area - but if this sounds like your bag and you are from further afield do reach out.
