for Every Body

Half day workshop

SATURDAY 14th March | 2.00-6.00 pm | West Hill Community Centre

Join Imogen on this half day workshop blending her inclusive person centred movement practice and somatic therapy techniques to create a held and supported space to experience a felt sense of being present in your body.

As the year gradually opens towards spring, what is arising within us, what might like to move?

 details

Our bodies are super knowledgeable. They can tell us so much about the world we live in, how we feel and think about things. We are encouraged and taught to spend a lot of time in our heads and with our thoughts- so it is not always easy to hear it or understand what our bodies are telling us. This half day workshop is for all those curious about exploring being present in our bodies.

Through the workshop we will explore being present in our body, how to listen to our body and to be curious about what our body is telling us in the moment - so that we might be able to feel a little more of our authentic selves.

Movement Director and Somatic Therapist Imogen Knight offers a route into exploring our connection to our bodies and encouraging us all to arrive as we are.

The workshop will include a mixture of natural movement, self expression, and exploration of how we might be able to feel a little more of our authentic selves, to move with ourselves and with others.

Everything is an invitation. All of you are welcome.

How?

Imogen will lead and guide the group through a mixture of exercises, invitations and prompts. She blends her inclusive person centred approach from her 20 year career as a movement director; working in theatre and film, in participatory projects with community settings and as a somatic therapist.

The space will be intentionally held with Imogen and an Afri-Co-Lab teamie. It is not a ‘therapy’ space or session - but a held and supported space to experience being present in your body.

You will be invited to move in response to different things such as music, sounds, instructions, prompts- there is no expectation to move in a particular way. Everything is information, and noticing not wanting to move is as informative as moving.

Using free movement we will start to build connections between our body, feelings and thoughts.

Everything is an invitation. All of you are welcome.

These yoga sessions are for EVERY BODY but we especially welcome folks in fat bodies, super fat bodies, infinifat bodies, queer, trans and gender non conforming bodies, Black and Brown bodies, older bodies, disabled bodies and anyone who feels more comfortable in body diverse spaces.

WHo?

This workshop is for every type of body. There is no expectation to be able to move in a certain way or have certain energy levels. This workshop can be done seated, or through a combination of standing and sitting.

This workshop is for those who:

- want to try moving freely as release or expression in a supportive non judgemental space

- want to reconnect with their body

- want to listen more to the reactions or physical feelings in their body

-are curious to explore how we move, feel and think moment to moment.

Come as you are and meet yourself in this somatic embodied movement workshop led by Imogen Knight.

Imogen Knight Headshot_edited_edited.jpg

Hi, I’m Imogen (she/her) I am a multidisciplinary movement director and somatic therapist. As a movement director I work across film, tv, theatre, opera and electronic music creating public art and performance.

As a somatic therapist I work one on one and as a group facilitator leading workshops in somatic movement, embodiment and self creative expression for community groups and marginalised people.

My great love is to create spaces where people can find their own unique self expression. When we can sense ourselves, our own voice, our essence, our sexuality and sensuality, we often experience greater clarity, spontaneity, and authenticity. All things vital to move forward through life.

I really look forward to meeting you!

Training:

  • 3 year training in Somatic Experiencing

  • Current trainee in NeuroAffective Touch (UK) and Healing the Roots of Sexuality and Sexual Trauma (Netherlands)
